WSP, AWS, and DGS Manual Weld Inspection Probes

WPS Phased Array Probes

As a world leader in phased array (PA) probe manufacturing, Olympus NDT has once again proved its superior applications knowledge with the introduction of the all new PA Weld Probe Series. Addressing multiple improvement opportunities, this new series will raise our best selling A1 and A2 probes to a new level. Every aspect of the probes has been examined and optimized for more inspection possibilities and a more ergonomic design. The smaller housing and wedge footprint allow closer access to the feature being inspected for a better beam coverage. The improved ergonomics make the probe more comfortable to hold during manual inspections. Because automated inspections are becoming more and more important, the cable exit has been optimized in order to reduce any conflict with holders once a probe is mounted on a scanner.

WPS Features

  • Optimized housing dimensions for a wider range of applications
  • Ergonomic housing for comfortable grip during manual inspections
  • Symmetrical active surface position
  • Cable exit now more suitable for use on scanners

Wedge Features

  • Optimized wedge footprint and dimensions for a wider range of applications
  • Shorter probe distance to a weld for better beam coverage

The optimized wedge design of the new Weld Probe Series allows the user to get closer to the weld. For some applications, this provides the ability to fire directly on the defect instead of using multiple skips before reaching the heat affected zone.

DGS and AWS Phased Array Probes

Olympus NDT has released a new series of phased array probes for DGS and AWS code-compliant inspections. These probes allow code inspections to be performed at multiple angles using one probe. Finite angles can be calibrated and displayed, allowing the generation of proper refracted angles over a range of metal velocities.
The phased array DGS probe performs an inspection sweep from 45° to 70° using a single probe with an integrated wedge design. The probe fully meets the DGS requirements and can be used with the standard DGS sizing charts. The DGS probe series is available both in a 2 MHz, 8 element configuration and in a 4 MHz, 16 element linear configuration.
The AWS Phased Array Probe, when mounted to the external wedge, covers the inspection angles required for compliance with the AWS code (45°, 60°, and 70°). The phased array AWS probe is available in a 2.25 MHz, 16 element linear configuration.

DGS Probe Features

  • Perform DGS inspections using phased array technology
  • Steering angle range of 45° to 70° with a single probe
  • Integrated wedge design optimized for low noise performance for refracted shear inspection in metals
  • Allows generation of proper refracted angle over a range of metal velocities

AWS Probe Features

  • Meets AWS code requirements
  • Covers all 3 AWS required angles (45°, 60°, and 70°) with a single probe
  • Internal crosslinked polystyrene with markings for beam index point
