I have a three OmniScan MX mainframes with one ECA and two PA modules. I've noticed a problem with my 32:128 PA on the newest mainframe.

Revision E
Software Version 2.0R7

There seems to be some issue with charging the batteries ... once I get the batteries charged, and run the unit for a few hours, they get pretty hot. The indicators tell me the batteries need charging, so I shut the unit down and hear something like a fan or hard-drive spin down until all is quiet. Then I plug in the AC adapter to charge, and I hear something spin back up again inside, and there are no indications that there is any charging going on.

There is some combination of starting up again with AC plugged in, then shutting down, etc., whereby the batteries will beging to charge properly. Once they are fully charged, I remove the AC adapter and the unit might sit over the weekend and a few more days ... sit for maybe 5 days with charged batteries.

Then I turn the unit back on again, and find the batteries are drained (these are new batteries but have been discharged a few times). I'm not exactly sure what is draining the batteries. Has anyone else noticed this or come across this before?

Hi Jeff,

This seems to be a hardware problem. You should contact the Service Center (customer.service@olympusNDT.com or 1-877-225-8380) or leave me your coordinates and I will contact you.

Thanks, Sebastien -

I plan to give the guys in Houston a call soon ... we just have received this 32:128 and its the only unit I currently have on hand. There is definitely something going on about powering it down while AC plugged in, or maybe not having it plugged in - one or the other - and some combination will get the batteries charging properly.

If I can't get anything from them I'll give you a call ... thanks for the support!
