Post Subject: B Scan Methodology and Equipment
I am interested in learning about methodolgies/techniques and equipment to perform UT scans on piping to detect internal flaws. I have limited experience in this area but have some experience in using "A scan" equipment, which is limited in trying to scan larger areas (perhaps 1 square foot) to detect the types of internal flaws we are interested in. Any insight by anyone with experience in this area would be appreciated. Thanks.

Frank,
Have you considered using IRIS inspection for your pipr inspection? Can you tell me a little about your pipe dimensions, what is the ID and wall thickness? Depending on geometry, this could be a candidate for IRIS (Internal Rotating Inspection System). I look forward to hearing form you.

Frank:
What you need depends very much on your specific application. If you have small pipes and limited amounts, then a hand-held system will probably work well. If you have a large amount of big pipes, you will probably need some automation. Either post some more info on the Forum, or send me an e-mail with more details at michael.moles@olympusndt.com. You will also need to think about budget.
