I would be interested in learning more about the examination of girth gear with eddy current method, the type of probes and equipment use to inspect large diameter gear. I been surfing the net to try to get information but nothing that I look at give me the information that I need. MT has been the prefer method for many years but it appears that some operator of large gear are asking to have eddy current examination perform in lieu of MT. Thanks

Daniel - we have been involved with a Canadian company who is using Eddy Current Array probes for the inspection of large industrial gear teeth in lieu of penetrant and magnetic inspection. For this inspcetion we maufacture an array probe to suit the geometry of the gear tooth and the whole tooth is inspcted in a single pass. This particular customer is using the MS5800 and Multiview software, however, this inspection could be carried out using the Omniscan also. If this sounds like what you may be looking for, I can be contacted on email at aaron.greenbank@olympusndt for further information. I hope this helps.

Daniel,

Yes the OMNISCAN can be used for this and the Module is simply changed on the unit. I will give you a call on Monday as requested, we can discuss the application and costs associated then. Can you tell me what time zone you are in? I will be on Pacific time on Monday.

Aaron

Thanks to provide some information regarding the inspection of large diameter girth gear. So an Omniscan can be used for that purpose. We have an ultrasonic phase array system, is the eddy current an added module and at what cost? As for the probes each gear is different so each time a gear is inspected a new probe must be purchase and again what is the cost of an eddy current probe array cost?
Please give me a call at
