Introduction to Phased Array and TOFD techniques

About the Course

1. 40 hour (1 week) course for inspectors who are already level II or III in conventional ultrasonic inspection of welds and weldments and needing to progress into phased array inspection.
2. Formal classroom theory sessions covering, comparison of conventional ultrasonic theory and phased array theory and techniques, familiarization with the OmniScan® operation.
3. Phased array and TOFD theory will be explained and demonstrated.
4. Structured hands-on practical exercises using the OmniScan®
5. Experience will be gained in using, electronic scanning, sectorial scanning, beam steering and TOFD.
6. Technique development training and set-up optimization.
7. Flaw characterization and sizing techniques.
8. Software manipulation for imaging, data storage and set-up storing.
9. This course can be used for certification requirements in accordance with employer based certification programs such as SNT-TC-1A or NAS-410. Assistance will be provided to enable course attendees to incorporate the additional requirements into their NDT personnel certification program.

Who can participate?

This advanced five day training course is designed for Level II, Level III and NDE Management and Supervisory personnel to learn the principles and advantages of the rapidly emerging phased array technology. The Course covers the history of industrial phased arrays, the principles, capabilities applications & advantages of phased arrays compared to conventional inspection instruments

Structured Class Room Training

During the five day course the practical classes will provide participants with considerable hands-on time. Structured lectures combined with practicals will help the participants to understand the concepts and application of Phased Arrays to set up their own scan plans in electronic scanning, sectorial scanning and beam steering for their tailored applications on different products/applications.
